İnce ve kesilmesi kolay olan bu %99,95 saf molibden folyo, genellikle erimiş camın işlendiği parçalarda, fırınlardaki ısı kalkanlarında ve yüksek yoğunluklu ampullerde filaman desteği olarak kullanılır. Refrakter metal olarak da bilinen molibden, çoğu metalden daha yüksek bir erime noktasına sahiptir. Molibden, Kovar nikel alaşımından yaklaşık dokuz kat daha fazla ısı iletkenliğine sahiptir, bu nedenle ısı malzemeden hızla geçer ve uzaklaşır. Ayrıca, çoğu çeliğin yaklaşık yarısı kadar düşük bir termal genleşme katsayısına sahiptir, bu da sıcaklık artışına maruz kaldığında deforme olmayacağı anlamına gelir. Bununla birlikte, molibden, Kovar nikel alaşımı ve çelikten daha yoğundur.
